La Maison à Pondalez
A half-timbered house dating from the first quarter of the 16th century and listed as a Historic Monument, the Maison à Pondalez features one of the two best-preserved Pondalez staircases in Morlaix.
A monumental granite fireplace and a spiral staircase with its wooden landings form part of a vast central space. This layout is characteristic of a style of house specific to Morlaix.
This corbelled house is a remarkable testament to the golden age of the town of Morlaix. Having grown wealthy through the linen trade, the noble merchants were the driving force behind this architectural style, which is unique in the world.
The Morlaix Museum is presenting an exhibition at the Maison à Pondalez entitled ‘Morlaix, linen, the fibre of trade’, featuring items from the Morlaix Museum’s collections.
New exhibition in 2026: Dilasser – Between Earth and Sky
François Dilasser’s works are integrated into this everyday setting: paintings on the walls of a house, respecting the distinctive character of its architecture.
The title *Between Earth and Sky* evokes both the ascent from the ground floor to the upper storeys and an essential aspect of Dilasser’s work, ranging from allusions to landscape (the grid upon which the painting held at the Musée des Jacobins is based, the *Jardins* series, and cosmic imagery (Stars, Planets).
