Espace des arts

Located within the former Morlaix tobacco factory, which has been converted into a cultural centre, this venue was designed to host temporary exhibitions and showcase artistic creation in a variety of forms. It currently serves to ensure that the works from the Jacobins Museum in Morlaix remain on display whilst renovation work is carried out on the site in the town centre. Set in a spacious, flexible and modern environment, the Espace des Arts promotes an interdisciplinary approach to the museum’s collections—spanning fine art, history, ethnography and archaeology—making them accessible to a diverse audience.
Situated close to the recently opened Espace des sciences in the same building, it helps to make La Manu a truly vibrant cultural quarter at the heart of Morlaix.

What a pleasure it is to wander once more amongst the eclectic collections of the Musée des Jacobins! This collection faithfully reflects the museum’s history since its opening in 1887.

Spanning six sections, this exhibition invites visitors to rediscover the major works, archaeological artefacts, and examples of
folk art and traditions, which interact, complement one another and engage in dialogue to reveal their full significance.

As a museum of art and history, its collections bear witness to a sometimes unusual blend, where a folk sculpture
of the Ankhú stands alongside a portrait of a woman by Gustave Courbet, an Egyptian sarcophagus, works by the Australian Impressionist
John Peter Russell, a collection of wedding spoons and a nude by Pierre Bonnard.

The Espace des Arts is situated on the ground floor of the Manufacture des Tabacs. The entrance is on the right as you enter the main courtyard.

The Espace des Arts is closed until December whilst the exhibition is being refreshed.

The ticket office closes 20 minutes before the gallery closes.
